Leamington Architect designs 2 storey Farmhouse Extension

Our clients bought a small farm to the west of Kenilworth as a retirement project. The house that came with it wasn’t in the best of states. The clients also needed more space and so contacted local residential architect Sandy Hickey.

The project was quite complicated as it had previously been altered several times. We had to keep it under a certain volume, so that meant clever space planning

Before, the house had 3 bedrooms upstairs, but no bathroom as it had previously been converted from 2 bedrooms – the bathroom was in a cold lean to on the ground floor. The stairs came straight up from the kitchen area.

What did we do?

We relocated the bathroom upstairs, which allowed us to create a new entrance with utility / boot room, a new downstairs cloakroom. On the ground floor we added a little bit of space, which allowed us to relocate and form a large family / living / dining / kitchen. And we also added the essential study / bedroom 4 for running the farm from.

We doubled the size of the upstairs, to gain 3 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. And to improve the headlight we added 3 gable dormers.

The resulting design was a fabulous 2 storey extension and extensive reconfiguration.
