This project in Pennington, Hampshire was started in February, 2021 with a free initial consultation. The house was a detached chalet bungalow built in the 1950s. In our first consultation we discussed some of the client’s issues, one of the main ones being that the existing kitchen had no view of the garden at all.
The next month we had an online 2 hour workshop, including a free follow up consultation two months later. In this workshop we highlighted 3 different ways to add a small extension to the home, whilst retaining the existing kitchen unit, as the units were relatively new, and the client asked us to preserve them.
The first option was to incorporate a kitchen island with a seating area to the left, overlooking the garden. It also consisted of changing the position of the main entrance to utilise a spare room. Check out our great kitchen reconfiguration ideas.
The second option was to place the seating area toward the back of the home, in the existing dining space. This option often works well and is popular with clients as it is a cosier space, with less natural light.
The third option was to create a snug, separate area, then use the large hallway as a dining area for the family.
In the end, option 1 was chosen. I suggested that the client install a vaulted rooflight in order to filter in more light into the dining area. By March 2022, work had commenced on site, and was finished by June 2022, much to the satisfaction of the client.
The client gave us some lovely feedback, stating “A lovely team to be working with, very respectful of us and our space, and also of our wishes. They had excellent attention to detail in regards to the build. Nothing has been too much trouble for them.”
They also stated “You turned our vision into a concrete, simple plan for us, as we needed a fair amount of hand-holding as a novice. Now that I have seen it turn into reality right before my eyes, I can’t believe the results!”
