Lisa Raynes Nominated For New Business Award In the 4th BizMums Awards
Architect Lisa Raynes is the brains behind Pride Road, an architectural practice franchise that aims to not only offer homeowners a bespoke design service, but empower women at the same time. Lisa, who was Chair of the Women in Property North West, came up with the idea of a female-only franchise after twice being made redundant while on maternity leave.
Despite going to the same university and having the same experience in top-flight practices as her male colleagues, she paid a high price when she decided to start a family. “There is a big problem in our industry. At university, there is a 50-50 split between men and women studying architecture. However, in the workplace only 25 % of the architects registration board members and only 17.5 per cent of RIBA members are female.”, says Lisa.
After being made redundant for the second time, Lisa launched her own practice – Raynes Architecture – to fit around her lifestyle. Having successfully managed the business while bringing up her three children, divorcing her husband and planning a wedding to a new partner, Lisa realised that the business model could be franchised to other female architects.
Since the launch in July 2015, Pride Road has 3 franchisees operating in the North West. Founder Lisa Raynes operates the North Cheshire area, Magdalena Haener, a mum of 2, runs the South Manchester area. She signed in January 2017 and is now working 32 hrs a week, enjoying a stable stream of work. Catherine Traynor signed the franchise agreement in May 2017 to operate the Liverpool South territory. Since completing her training in April, Catherine has now converted 100% of her sales into work.
There has been a growing interest in the Pride Road business model in recent months and currently Lisa is in the process of meeting prospective franchisees in Birmingham, Leeds, the Fylde coast, and in 2 areas in London. Lisa is also actively looking to establish more franchises in the North West in the short term.
She is planning to join the British Franchise Association and acquire RIBA chartered practice status. Lisa Raynes is actively promoting her business and giving talks to female architects. She will be speaking at the North West Womens Enterprise Day in January 2018. She sits on the RIBA National Council and hopes to lead the agenda on women returners.
Lisa says ‘I am delighted to have been nominated for the BizMum’s New Business Awards, given that we set up Pride Road Architects less than 18 months ago. It’s thanks to the success of my franchisee’s Magda Haener and Catherine Traynor, that the business is growing rapidly’
Winners will be announced on Sunday, October 8th, 2017, at the annual BizMums Conference & Awards at the Manor House in Alsager, Cheshire. The day will bring together 100’s of mums in business from across the region to network, learn and celebrate each other’s achievements of the past 12 months
