When Judy began her Google search for a domestic architect to help with her ideas, little did she know that I was the architect that designed the house that she was actually renting, which she loved!
The project on hand was a tight mid terrace property in the heart of Didsbury. It had no vehicular access, a tiny back garden, two bedrooms and a half complete loft conversion and was not satisfying the spacial needs of its tenants.
We started with a concept design workshop and looked at a variety of concepts from an upside down house, a full loft conversion with a Dormer and a single story extension. Each of them would extend the house and give a greater feeling of space and airiness.
Throughout the session, we developed enough drawings for Judy to speak to Builders and get an idea of cost, and estate agents to get an idea of value. Ultimately they realised only the ground floor extension would stack up financially.
Judy commissioned me to take a ground floor extension forward. We remodelled the ground floor, extended to the side and put the kitchen in the middle. It’s a very simple plan but it allows it to get best use of space and has a dining table under the new glass roof. Judy absolutely loves it and has put in an eclectic repurposed kitchen.
