Architect Lisa Raynes, of Pride Road Architects North Cheshire, was tasked with a unique challenge in the Disley area of Cheshire. Her clients, Liz, Jen, and Liz’s mother Christine, wanted to create a flat for Christine in the existing garage space and renovate the ground floor to provide an open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area with bi-fold doors, a study, and a cozy snug to the front.
The house is a dormer bungalow with great views, and the project required a careful balance between preserving the existing footprint and creating a functional and stylish living space.
Lisa’s design focused on making the most of the available space, creating a luxurious apartment within the existing garage and transforming the ground floor into a modern and functional living space. The apartment has a separate front door, but it is also connected internally through the living room. The kitchen, living, and dining area at the back of the house provide ample space for family gatherings, while the snug and study offer cozy retreats for more intimate moments.
One of the biggest challenges for Lisa was to make the most of the existing space while still creating a functional and stylish living area. She worked closely with the family to understand their needs and preferences, and her design reflected their unique requirements. The use of bi-fold doors and sleek, modern finishes created a bright and airy living space that feels connected to the outside world.
The project was not without its challenges, however. The family lived on-site throughout the renovation, which made the process more difficult. Lisa’s advice to others facing a similar situation is to be prepared, choose a good builder, and don’t be afraid to ask for help from friends and family.
In the end, the project was a huge success. Liz, Jen, and Christine are thrilled with their new living space, which combines luxury and functionality in equal measure. Lisa Raynes’ design has created a home that truly meets the unique needs of this family, and it stands as a testament to her skill and expertise as an architect.
